I started writing Decay in/around December 2020, with a version of the chorus' guitar riff. While I was really excited about the song at first and how it began to develop, at that point my production lacked the punch to truly do it justice. Since then I wrote, re-recorded and scrapped versions of this song about three or four full times over, until a couple of months back when I picked it back up and it thankfully began to click.
Many of the elements of songwriting/production I've picked up since the song's initial writing sessions have truly brought Decay to life. Further to the credit of Haydn, who, while I always intended as a feature on the song as far back as vocals existed on it, really only came in during the song's final stages and fleshed out the elements I was shaky on, and provided feedback/support for much of the final processes of the song.
While it's certainly the artists dilemma to question "is a song ever truly /done/?", I believe this song has finally reached a point where I'm happy to let it go. I hope you enjoy it!
